Love is perhaps the most exalted and sublime human emotion. True love, it is said, is self-less. It is also unidirectional. It knows only to give; it knows not expectation. Those who love are blessed and enjoy a bliss no other pleasure can match.
Does one need to show love? In most circumstances one needs to do so. In some, it is best left unexpressed. But to express one’s love is a strong urge, often too tempting to resist and seldom restrained. And expression of love is not necessarily verbal. A gesture, a look, a glance, all these can show intensest love.
And their is love and love! The first love of the adolescence, the limitless love of a doting mother, the passionate and impatient love between lovers, the dutiful love of a devoted son, the sincere love of a friend, the desperate love of a devotee, all are expressed in ways and words, language and grammar of their own.
A show of love transcends words. It could be even silent.
At its core, love involves expressing care and affection towards someone else. There are countless ways to show love.
Verbal expressions of affection is perhaps the most common. Words are a very powerful tools in expressing love. Holding hands, giving hugs, or even just a pat on the back can be simple yet powerful ways to show someone that you care. It brings comfort to someone who is going through a difficult time.
An act of service is another expression of love. It becomes very meaningful and touching when one is in need of help and in stress. An overwhelmed person passing through a tough patch appreciates these services immensely.
Spending time with someone, whether it’s going on a date or just hanging out, can be another way to show love. Making time for someone can be a powerful way to show that they are important to you.
Giving someone a thoughtful gift, whether it’s a small token or something more significant, can be a way to show love. It’s the thought that counts, so it doesn’t have to be something expensive. A heartfelt note or even a homemade card can be just as meaningful.
Forgiving someone for their mistakes and showing that you still love them can be one of the most winning ways to show love. It can be difficult, but it can also be one of the most rewarding and healing experiences for both people involved.
Being able to understand and relate to someone’s feelings can be a powerful way to show love. It is easy to get caught up in our own perspective, but taking time to understand someone else’s feelings better demonstrate that you care.
It’s important to remember that everyone expresses and receives love differently. Some people may value verbal expressions of love, while others may prefer physical touch or acts of service. It’s essential to understand how the person you’re showing love to prefers to receive it, and to try to show love in a way that is meaningful to them.
Showing love is about connecting with someone else on a deeper level and making them feel valued and appreciated. It’s about being there for them through the good times and the bad, to share the joys and sorrows and enjoying the effort to make the relationship work. It is a continuing act requiring patience, compassion, and understanding.
Whether it’s through verbal expressions of love, physical touch, acts of service, quality time, or forgiveness, the most important thing is that it comes from heart, from a genuine care and affection. Showing may not be easy but its surely worth it.
And yet, for me, Love must remain unexpressed and unarticulated. In my world, the language of love is silence. The genuineness and intensity of sentiments are too inadequate for words. The language of heart deserves a language, a grammar and a form that must transcend words.
As a poet has so eloquently put,
In silence I love-in silence I keep
My feelings for you, my feelings so deep.
I cannot deny, but I cannot admit,
I’m singing inside a silent song of adoration.
What would you think if you knew that
I’m sending you love in every way?
I beg the wind to kiss you
And the moonlight caress you.
Let the nightingale sing
Your name in everything.
How can I call? How can I not call?
Selfish hearts are doomed to fall.
I shall follow your steps patiently, silently, invisibly.
In silence I love, in silence I keep my
Feelings for you, my feelings so deep.
I cannot deny, I cannot admit,
I’m singing inside a silent song of adoration.
If love is a mystery that cannot be fully understood or explained, its articulation is even more mystical, arcane and esoteric, because a language, any language, is too feeble a medium to give it the full expression.
