Parting of a Leaf

 My brilliantly hued radiance
Of red and purple, smooth and shining
Pales into brown, then yellow
Weak and spent, I feel
Then, one day a cool breeze blows!

A little harder than usual
I detach from my home
Flutter in the air
Only for a while
Then fall on the ground, and to oblivion!

A man used to watch
Me from the window
Everyday with passion and intent
Sometimes animatedly discussing
Perhaps my beauty and splendour!

Did he notice my departure?
Perhaps he did! Because
He kept looking at the place
Where I once belonged
Pensive, lost in thoughts!

As I lay below, on the ground, breathless
Consciousness waning, a thought struck me
What about that man? Will he
One day depart like me?
And will we meet again, I wondered!
