As guests gathered
In weird, scary, funny costumes
Bringing with them ‘Treat’ for others
Not wanting to be seduced
By the visiting spirits and souls
From the yonder other lands!
Children and young
Of infinite variety and age
Ran and frolicked, making mirth
Shouting, yelling, even crying
The Party was warm and aglow
With innocence sublime!
A ‘Spiderman’ here, An ‘Ironman’ there
A ‘Bowser’ in the yellow
A ‘Lady Bug’ in red
Witches and sorcerers
Pumpkin lanterns, skull masks
All were there in full splendour!
I wondered how many
Understood the dead, the departed
The spirits, the souls
The worlds that belonged elsewhere
Goblins evil, and Ghosts
As they moved and danced in whirls funny!
The whole world is
A Halloween Party
Celebrating the past, propitiating
The dead and the gone
Dancing in the present and yearning it long
And hoping to be called to a land beyond!
Are we not
Ourselves a guest?
Visiting a world of yestertime
Flitting hours of rejoice, we pine
See and remember times gone by
Then return, spent, fretting and whine!
