Conjoin and carry, relate and link
Ends that are
Separated by divide, gulf, drift
Meeting the nothingness
With purpose, alliance, and shift!
In pursuit of happiness
The hiatus is often huge
The gap, abyss, rift
So seemingly unbridgeable.
Standing at one edge
I constantly wonder!
How does one understand
The nature of this chasm?
What stands between me
And the end beyond?
What is that impediment, that inhibition?
That draws me back from moving ahead!
Ambition, the thirst for more
Assets, matter or wealth
Or, intangibles like,
Name, fame, glory, recognition
An unending race against nothing
Leading nowhere!
Pursuit of Happiness
Is hampered by desires of infinite variety
And form and intensity
Ever looking at constantly changing goals
Race to Destination relentless
Making the joy of journey inconsequential!
Pursuit of a goal
Not pursuit of happiness
Chasing targets, not fulfilment
Glory of attainment, not
Enrichment of soul
Clouding the journey, convoluting the goal!
Any end is glorious, not its scale
All goals are splendid, not their grandeur
The effort, the spirit, the toil
The joy and elation.
Pursuance, creation
Is the ultimate celebration!
